Applications of Iodine

They are mainly used in medicine, photography and dyes. Various forms of this element are used as disinfectant like the tincture and iodophor. They are also used for staining purposes in chromatography, as mordant and also for testing the presence of oxidants. Dye and ink manufacturers use them for making aniline and phthalein dyes and also for bright colours of fluorescent paints. Other several uses include the production of iodised table salt, electric lamp bulbs, and purification of water, sanitation and cleaning of swimming pools.
